Fellow NM Photographer!Just a quick note to arouse you to Karl Koenig's opening at the Inpost Art Space (at the Outpost Performance lay. 210 Yale SE) this coming Friday evening. 5-8. Karl is a talented photographer who makes images mostly of nature and architecture the world round. The show will cerebrate on his large format gumoil photographs about 20 years ago. The prints are hand pigmented resulting in amazingly vibrant photographs with a wondrous almost catastrophic fairy tale quality. I find them highly affecting and unique. My fellow curator Rob Thalmann and I intend to cerebrate heavily on local photography during our 2 year term there at the Outpost and this is just the tip of the iceberg for us. Maybe we could even do a DCF photographer's assort show there?Come see the show on the 5th! Hey! wish you're enjoying the Tom Robbins. I love his stuff. Welcome to Art in ABQ. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions and thanks for joining us!

"What drives the growth in FX activity?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 14:17:22

includes a 10 page bind which offers an explanation: The three main factors identified by BIS authors Gabriele Galati and Alexandra Heath appear to be avoid funds portfolio diversification of award funds and higher turnover of emerging market currencies: Two specific findings rest out. First the growth in transactions between banks and other financial institutions was particularly strong consistent with the increasing importance of avoid funds as well as portfolio diversification by institutional investors with a longer-term horizon such as pension funds. Second there has been a marked increase in turnover involving emerging merchandise currencies. The first two are not much of a surprise. The third can be seen as a by-product of the very healthy economic and trade performance of many emerging economies in recent years. In the past many emerging currencies had remarkably low fx turnover for the coat of their economies; less so now. "Fed Rewards Risk Seeking Activity (And CNBC Ratings)" posted by ~Ray

My furnish lie is the new liquidity facility the Fed is launching (only four auctions planned but by its own admission it may become permanent) is no elixir for ending the ascribe crisis. In chess parlance it is not checkmate just the Fed moving its queen. The move will help get funds to institutions desire Countrywide with anonymity at a low evaluate (OIS or average expected Fed funds evaluate) and without necessarily going to primary dealers first where it has of late been hoarded. The amounts involved are not enormous and the Fed implied it would not be permanently increasing the money give - it ordain possibly cut back on liquidity adds to primary dealers through OMO (conference call at 1900/1400 today between the Fed and primary dealers). Clearly the Fed could increase amounts available at the auctions…ascertain on it. The change lines with the ECB and SNB are not unprecedented - used in 2001 and end of 1999. But this news did create concern that a Swiss bank is in trouble - Fed later said no specific institutions were being earmarked. But it will reduce the buying of dollars for euros that have followed ECB liquidity injections in the past - European banks have dollar needs not euro needs. It is worth noting that while the broad stock indexes are up sharply today the financials are lower. If there was any write that the Fed had finally fixed the subprime problem one would evaluate financials to outperform. That said change spreads are in high yield is tighter and so is EM fixed income. ABX indexes too are mostly higher. Perhaps today’s lesson for the merchandise is about the fallacy of the subprime hedge…if officials prevent the merchandise from clearing then hedges and shorts in subprime are not worth anything close to what many anticipate and what many proxy indices tell. The only good news for the world short subprime is that the Fed and US Treasury are not curing the patient just applying compel to a life threatening wound. Before this crisis ends there are plenty more rate cuts government bailouts (using taxpayer money) and eventually even the ECB will be easing. Banks with easier access to cash should be viewed in light of a serious economic slowdown and reduced revenue. The more I look at this the more I think of Japan banks with non-performing loans and zero reject evaluate through the 90’s and still around. The world economy will not disconnect from a decade of stagnation in the US if the Fed and Treasury (and Congress) fail to learn from the Japanese undergo (no I have not yet read Martin eat from FT but will soon).
